Donate A Bike by August 29, 2014

In an effort to promote a healthy and active life style The Sandwich Town Business Improvement Area is collecting gently used bicycles from August 15, 2014 through to August 29, 2014. The donated bicycles will be given to Brock Secondary Elementary School students during the Sandwich Town Festival on September 6 & September 7, 2014.

 

Bicycles can be dropped off at The Dominion House 3140 Sandwich Street during the hours of 11 am to 3 pm daily.

The BIA is also asking for bike helmet donations and these can also be dropped off the Dominion House.

"We want to be able to provide these students especially those who have never been introduced to this type of activity the opportunity to own a bicycle," says David Grimaldi the Executive Director of the Sandwich Towne BIA.

Military Muster August 16 & 17, 2014

Just like the name implies, the Southern Ontario Military Muster will assemble Second World War-era vehicles in show-ready condition  Aug. 16 & 17, 2014 for duty during one of the largest events of its kind in Canada.

Expect more than a dozen restored trucks, Bren-gun carriers and Jeeps to be viewed at the Essex Arena Sports Complex grounds, 60 Fairview Ave., Essex.

ALL Veterans can attend at no charge; general adult admission costs $5 for adults, $3 for youth ages 6 to 17 years free admission for 5 years and under,

August 16, 2014 BBQ for Alpha-1

Saddle-up for Alpha-1 Cowboy Cookout Steak BBQ

 

Alpha-1 Canada, an organization that supports patients with Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and located in Windsor is hosting a Cowboy Cookout Steak BBQ and dance fund raising event on Saturday August 16 at the Riverside Sportsman’s Club. The event has a western theme and is called “Saddle-up for Alpha-1 Cowboy Cookout Steak BBQ.”

Could your family’s’ Asthma or COPD be hereditary? Portions of the proceeds from Saddle Up will go towards helping organ transplant recipients and the A-1 Kids Program to support affected children, their parents and families deal with Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.  Wear your cowboy gear and support men, women and children suffering from this often debilitating rare disease with no known cure and often resulting in liver or lung transplants. 

 

Live music for dancing under the stars will be provided by Big Louie and the Band.

The event begins at 5:30 pm on Saturday August 16th outdoors at the Riverside Sportsman’s Club, 10835 Riverside Drive East, Windsor, ON.

 

No cowboy hat? No worries, hats will be for sale at the event as well as other fun activities and a Horseman’s Raffle.
