Art in the Park 2013 is Ready To Roll May 31 to June 2, 2013!

It’s almost here! The 35th annual Art in the Park takes place this weekend at Willistead Park.

Windsor’s beloved annual outdoor arts exhibition -- a sure sign that summer is just around the corner – will be held this coming Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2 on the elegant grounds of Windsor’s architectural treasure, Willistead Manor.

“Everything’s in place and we’re good to go”, Renee Pare, Chair of Art in the Park 2013, said in eager anticipation. “After a full year of planning, we can’t wait to throw open the park gates and get on with our show. With a sold-out, record 283 exhibitors and vendors, it’s going to be our biggest and best Art in the Park ever.”

The largest annual art exhibition of its kind in the region, Art in the Park was recently named one of the top 100 festivals in the province by Arts And Festivals Ontario for the second consecutive year. It’s one of just a few “juried” art shows at which standards of quality and acceptance is at a consistently high level.

Although the big outdoor arts and crafts show takes place on Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm and on Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, event organizers have planned a gala pre-event launch party in the park on Friday evening, May 31. Art in the Park has signed two well-known country music performers for this year’s event. Canadian country artist Dallas Smith will headline the AITP Goes Country Friday night pre-event show. The evening starts with the Karaoke finals. The winners were selected last night at the Bull N Barrel and the talent will blow you away. Crystal Gage, a local country favourite takes the stage next to entertain the crowd. With country line dancing and best dressed cowboy and cowgirl contests, the night will be a lot of fun. Tickets for the Friday night launch party ($20 in advance, $25 at the gate) are available online, at all WFCU branches and at High Jinks Indoor Playcare.

NONSTOP MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT AT ART IN THE PARK MAY 31 TO JUNE 2, 2013

In addition to the amazing art and handicrafts enticingly arrayed around the perimeter of Willistead park, Art in the Park 2013 will also feature great live musical entertainment throughout the entire weekend in the Spirit Tent and around the Park.

Under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) and premier sponsor Caesars Windsor, the 35th annual Art in the Park will be held on the spacious grounds of historic Willistead Manor on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2, 2013.

But before the wrought-iron Willistead Park gates swing open for the big arts exhibition on Saturday morning at 10 am, there will be a special pre-event launch party in the Spirit Tent on Friday evening, May 31 - where they are “going Country!” It will be a hooting good time with Country Line Dancing lessons, and prizes for the best dressed cowboy and cowgirl. Tickets are $20.00 in advance at aipwindsor.com, all WFCU locations and High Jinks Indoor Playcare. If still available, tickets will be $25 at the gate.

Art in the Park has signed two well-known country music performers for this year’s big event. Canadian country artist Dallas Smith will headline the pre-event Friday night show May 31 thanks in part to our presenting sponsor Country FM 95.9. While in Nashville, Dallas Smith worked with acclaimed songwriter/producer Zac Maloy (Carrie Underwood, James Blunt). After a decade of fronting Default – which won a JUNO award – Smith has stepped out on his own into the hugely popular world of country music.

And that’s not all! Crystal Gage will also perform live at the Friday night gala. Crystal, who performs all over North America, has opened for such well-known artists as Big & Rich, Emerson Drive and Gretchen Wilson. The eight finalists in Art in the Park’s first-ever karaoke competition will perform on-stage vying for first-place honors and the chance to star in their very own music video.

Leah Daniels is the headliner for the Saturday evening show in the Spirit Tent. Raised in Uxbridge, Ontario, Leah blends country, pop and even a bit of yodeling – a talent she picked up from her grandfather. Also on stage for the Saturday night show is British Beat 66 – a musical tribute to the “British invasion” of the Sixties. Live musical entertainment will be provided in the Spirit Tent through the day Saturday, including performances by Britney DelBel; the Music Express’s 12th Annual Talent show featuring amazing grade school and secondary school contestants; the Toppermost Beatle Show – an enthusiastic tribute to the greatest band in musical history, and Timeline, Windsor’s premier good time rock ‘n roll party band.

Beebo will perform Saturday and Sunday at scheduled times in the Kids Zone area from 11 am till 4 pm.

Three groups will entertain Art in the Park visitors throughout the day on Sunday. The Cardinal School of Music will showcase the talent of their students on the Spirit Tent stage for the first time, at 11 a.m. Transeo will provide a wide variety of listenable music for all tastes and generations starting at 1:30 p.m., and Electric Blue will conclude the musical part of the weekend program at 3 p.m.
